Do I need to use the United MileagePlus Explorer card to buy the ticket to get benefits?

Since I’ve gotten the Chase MileagePlus Explorer Credit Card, my friends and colleagues have been asking me questions about the MileagePlus Explorer cards benefits.
As a business person, sometimes we can’t use our personal cards and have to use a business card. The most popular question I get is:
Do you have to use your MileagePlus credit card when buying United tickets to obtain the benefits?
The answer is NO!
I routinely purchase my United flights with my business credit card via the United/Continental Website. I have my MileagePlus Explorer card stored into my profile, but I change my personal card to my business card upon clicking on “Purchase.” Since the MileagePlus Explorer card is in my profile, I still get the United MileagePlus Explorer benefits of free baggage and earlier boarding. Unfortunately I do not get the extra points as that would be a great loophole!
Earn extra miles on United by October 15, 2011

United/Contintental is giving out extra award miles.
When you fly 4 round trips you get 5,000 miles, or 6 round trips you get 15,000 miles. There’s also an extra 5,000 bonus miles for any international round trip.
Unfortunately, you have to do this all within the next two months.

Check SPG Free Weekend Nights online at SPG.com

Following up on my last article, SPG is finally showing free weekend nights awards online at spg.com (you have three more days to earn another free night which can be redeemed before the end of September 30, 2009).
To check your SPG free weekend nights status, login to SPG’s website, select account information, than under Starpoints@ Awards, click “My Earned Award” link.
The My Earned Award page should show you the number of free weekend night awards. Reminder, they expire end of September and are running out of rooms fast. Use them or lose them.
Quick update: I just booked a category 5 hotel for labor day weekend. The process took a little bit since everyone is saving their awards for the last minute august/september travel. The spg operator has to search date by date for the hotel of choice. I had the operator search through each weekend in september for numerous hotels until we luckily found one. Book quick for the higher category hotels.
